Operations Director | Ghana | 2021

Chemonics seeks an operations director for the anticipated USAID Resilience in Northern Ghana (RING) II Systems Strengthening Activity in Ghana. The project aims to address poor nutrition and weak resilience in northern Ghana through a service delivery systems strengthening approach. The RING II Activity will result in sustained improvements in service delivery by local governments to achieve measurable improvements in the nutrition and resilience of reproductive-aged women and children under five years old in Northern Ghana. The operations director will play an integral role in the management and operational oversight of the program. The individual will oversee all aspects of the Ghana RING II Activity’s operations, including administration, finance, procurement, human resources, and grants administration. The individual will be expected to support the chief of party and other program staff by ensuring that the team has the required resources to effectively implement activities, while remaining able to continuously adapt the program in the face of changing local political, legal, and economic landscapes. This position will be based in Ghana. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the chief of party in providing leadership in the management and technical implementation of the activity and ensure successful achievement of results as defined in the award
  • Supervise day-to-day field presence in the areas of operations (including the project’s facilities such as office space, equipment, and project vehicles), administration, logistics, procurement, subcontract management, grants administration, budgeting and financial accounting, and IT and information security
  • Oversee and monitor the development and implementation of the grants program
  • Ensure project compliance with all contractual and administrative requirements, with support from home office and operations/finance team
  • Identify and mitigate risks to the project, Chemonics, and the client

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in international development or a related field**
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant project management and program coordination experience
  • Experience in local governance, health, nutrition, private sector engagement, market systems, food systems and security, or a related field
  • Experience working in Ghana or West Africa highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in grants under contract, finance, procurement, and human resources and experience overseeing these areas
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven experience facilitating communications and coordinating with a wide range of stakeholders and partners
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English and strong written and oral communications skills required; proficiency in one or more Ghanaian languages a plus
